As a military family owned business, I look forward to supporting you as a DoD approved Skillbridge provider and assisting with your transition from the military to civilian employment and business creation. Service members participating in the Skillbridge program with Gwilt Group continue to receive their military compensation and military benefits while obtaining real-world training and work experience within the real estate industry. As a real estate group brokered by a cloud-based brokerage, we are able to support you in the Skillbridge program anywhere in the US and in select overseas locations. Recognizing that 87% of Realtors fail within their first five years, we established this program to set you up for success as you transition from serving your country to serving others through real estate.

The DoD SkillBridge program is an opportunity for Service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through an internship with Gwilt Group during the last 180 days of service. Separating Service members of any rank, enlisted or officer, can be granted up to 180 days of permissive duty to focus solely on training full-time with Gwilt Group after unit commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) provides written authorization and approval of their Skillbridge application.

Gwilt Group is headquartered in Los Angeles, CA and conducts Skillbridge & Career Skills Program Internships across the United States. Gwilt Group can support your internship anywhere in the United States. The majority of the training is conducted online, via our cloud brokerage software and other sites, which allows you to participate from the location of your choosing.

We recommend starting as soon as you can to avoid any delay from impacting the amount of time you can participate in the internship.

Some services recommend applying 12 months from your separation date, although we have been successful in having interns receive approval within 2 weeks of their application.

You will be required to sign the Gwilt Group Skillbridge Internship Agreement (SIA). In accordance with this agreement, you must contact Natasha Gwilt once you have passed your license exam and are ready to join the brokerage.

This internship can be customized for any duration from 2 to 6 months. The 2 month minimum is to ensure you obtain enough of a benefit from the program, and the DoD limits the Skillbridge internship to a maximum period of 6 months.

We can support varying schedules, however, the standard schedule is Monday through Saturday. Real estate typically requires work on the weekend as that is when the majority of clients are available to see homes. You should prepare for this until you are able to build a big enough business to have other agents cover work activities over the weekend.

You can select work hours that work for them, for no more than 40 hours per week, in accordance with the terms of the Skillbridge and Career Skills Programs. Work hours typically include weekdays and at least one weekend day.

No. We can support your internship anywhere in the United States. The majority of the training is conducted online, via our cloud brokerage software and other sites, which allows you to participate from the location of your choosing. Our program allows you to practice real estate, once you obtain your license, in any state you choose.

You will be assigned a mentor in your local area, once you are licensed, to assist with the nuances of that area. In addition, once you are licensed you will have access to a mentorship group of over 5,000 agents from around the world including top producing agents making millions per year in real estate.

No, our program is designed to prove training on how to build your business even if you do not have your license. You will need to obtain your license in order to build your business through real estate sales and to receive commission on your sales after completing the internship.

As soon as you are able to, as it will increase the benefit you receive from the internship by allowing you to participate in activities with clients or shadow other Realtors in the field.

You will ideally have their real estate license prior to starting the internship, however this is not a pre-requisite requirement. You will work to obtain your license as part of this internship if you do not already have one before you start. Various internship activities, specifically those dealing with clients, require you to have a license.

You will be completing training to obtain your license (from an independent provider). You will also go through extensive training on how to build your real estate business provider. Once you obtain your license, you may have the opportunity to shadow other agents in your local area and/or assist your own clients with their real estate transactions. 

You will complete a comprehensive training program designed to teach you about all aspects of being a Realtor and building your real estate business. The majority of this training is conducted virtually and can be accessed from anywhere in the world.

- Real estate fundamentals training will include the home buying process, home selling process, purchase contracts, sales contracts, lease contracts, and financing basics.

- Business growth training will include goal setting, mindset, lead generation techniques, time management, networking, and social media.

- Technology training will include client relationship management software, transaction file management, and remote and virtual tools.

In accordance with the terms of the Skillbridge and Career Skills Program, the intern will not receive any form of compensation for work completed during the internship. This is a dual employment internship, where the military is still providing full pay and benefits to the military member throughout the duration of the internship. Any commissions resulting from intern sales will be assigned to Gwilt Group for the duration of the internship in accordance with the DoD Skillbridge and Career Skills Program terms.

Gwilt Group does not charge anything to participate in the program. However, there are expenses that the Intern must pay in order to obtain a license, join the brokerage, and have access to the MLS. These expenses are as follows:

-Pre-license education: Typically $200-$400, and can usually be completed online

-Background check: Typically $75-$150

-State test and license application: Typically $200-$400

-Multiple Listing Service and Local Association: Typically $500-$1000 per year, may be paid upfront or monthly based on the specific association

-State and National Association of Realtors: Typically included in local association dues

-Brokerage fee to join: $149 total, includes first month’s $85 fee

-Brokerage education & technology fee: $85/month

As a graduate of the internship, you will have the opportunity to remain with eXp Realty and partnered with Gwilt Group as long as you keep your license active and meet eXp Realty’s requirements.

Gwilt Group currently has limited opportunities for direct hire. The internship is designed so that you can partner with Tasha Gwilt after you complete your internship to help grow your business through mentoring and Tasha’s network.

Just as with any industry, there are no income guarantees. Once you obtain your license and graduate from the program, you could join a builder or sales team on a salaried position. These positions offer steady income at levels that is typically less than what a commission based Realtor will earn once they build their business to sufficient volume.
